Referencing Symposium

A symposium on International Students, Writing and Referencing will be held at the University of Bradford on the 9th June 2010.  The aim of the symposium is to consider and discuss the perceptions and experiences of international students in relation to academic writing, including referencing.  For further details and to book a place, please click here.

 
Celebrating Partnerships in Learning

This year's conference is a joint event organised by the LearnHigher CETL and the Learning Development in Higher Education Network (LDHEN).  It will be hosted by Nottingham Trent University on 29th, 30th, and 31st March 2010, and held in the newly-opened Nottingham Conference Centre.

The theme this year is "Celebrating Partnerships in Learning", reflecting the achievements of LearnHigher, as a collaboration between sixteen universities, and of LDHEN with its emphasis on the value of learning partnerships between students, academics, researchers and developers.

LearnHigher Referencing Book

The book that resulted from research for the LearnHigher Referencing Area: 'The Complete Guide to Referencing and Avoiding Plagiarism', published by The Open University Press, is to be available in a second edition from February 2010.  The book, by Colin Neville, University of Bradford, has been revised and the new edition contains an extended section of referencing examples for both electronic and printed sources, the winning essay from a competition set by the Referencing Learning Area, and the results of a research survey into student perceptions of referencing.

The LearnHigher Referencing Learning Area Coordinators are seeking the view of international students studying in Britain on their experiences of referencing in assignments, both in their home countries and in Britain.

Students can send their views electronically via a 'Have Your Say' facility on the Referencing Learning Area pages.  There are 12 x £25 book tokens to be won, and all students leaving their views will be entered for a fortnightly random draw over the next six months.

LearnHigher at LDHEN Annual Symposium

Nottingham Trent University – 29th-31st March 2010

After five years, the LearnHigher Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning will draw to a close at the end of July 2010.  In order to showcase all of the work that has been ongoing during the life of the project, LearnHigher will support next year’s Annual Symposium of the Learning Development in Higher Education Network.  This event will be held at Nottingham Trent University on 29, 30, and 31 March 2010, and our theme will be “Celebrating Partnerships in Learning Development”.

Success for LearnHigher at Jorum Awards

LearnHigher Success

LearnHigher resources won both first and third place in the Jorum Learning and Teaching Competition 2009.  The panel of judges looked for exciting, innovative resources and winners were scored based on appropriateness, engagement, effectiveness and reusability.  The top three winners were announced and presented with their prizes at a Gala Dinner on Wednesday 9th September.

Students' Writing in Transition Symposium

BASS Management Centre, Nottingham Trent University

Over 40 delegates attended the second annual Student's Writing in Transition symposium at Nottingham Trent University. A wide range of delegates from across the UK representing both the higher and further education sectors attended. The event was organised by the Quality Enhancement team within CASQ as part of the University's involvement in the LearnHigher CETL.

Fishing for Help with Writing?

A new teaching & learning resource has recently been launched called WrAssE (Writing for Assignments E-Library).  It consists of authentic examples of students' written work which covers a range of disciplines and levels of study accompanied by comments from lecturers which explain how and why the writing "works".  The project has been developed by the LearnHigher CETL team in Plymouth.
