Research and Development

LearnHigher’s key objective has been to develop and share peer-evaluated, research-informed learning development resources. Thus research and development have been at the heart of the network’s activities. Through five years of shared evaluation and action research, LearnHigher has built a significant body of insights and expertise, much of which has been written up in reports, presentations and articles. In addition, a comprehensive and popular set of teaching and learning resources has been developed which are freely available to the Higher Education community, both here and abroad.

The LearnHigher network spans sixteen universities, each with their own unique student and teaching communities. With each institution researching a particular learning area (or areas), we have been able to collate a rich set of data. In addition we have funded development projects, both as collaborations between partners, and small fund projects in the wider learning development community. Topics have included the effectiveness of learning development resources and how to better engage students; specific areas of university learning including transitions between academic levels, becoming an independent researcher and attitudes to referencing; the use and design of learning spaces; the role of learning developers (including ourselves!) and their status within institutions.

This section is currently under development. Links to more information on LearnHigher’s research and development activities will go live shortly.
