Welcome to LearnHigher's 'Learning Areas'. LearnHigher is engaged with twenty learning areas that underpin activity in all academic disciplines. Within each of these areas we have collated tried and tested resources from across the sector. Some of them are designed to be mediated by teaching staff and learning developers, some of them are designed for students to access directly. Where we have identified gaps in provision we have developed and peer reviewed our own resources. Some of these have been large-scale collaborative projects, some are quick ‘one-pagers’. We are also concerned to understand what makes resources effective and to this end, we are undertaking practice-led enquiry and building a research base that seeks to understand the following: • What are the students’ practices? • Why have they adopted these practices? • What encourages and supports them? • What discourages and hinders them? • If there is a gap between the research informed practices that LearnHigher supports and those that (some) students use, what might be done to lessen it?
Throughout the CETL’s life the bank of resources and research will grow, as will the network’s expertise. The LearnHigher network is in itself a resource available to the HE sector for those seeking information about what makes an effective resource.
