Introduction

Assessment is a topic of key importance to staff and students in Higher Education. At the University of Kent we have undertaken a review of assessment including:

• a review of the University’s Learning, Teaching and Assessment strategy
• focusing on enhancing assessment practices 
• establishing an assessment network and
• developing online assessment resoúrces for staff and students.

We have carried out research into various assessment topics, including the student perception of assessment at HE and how staff and students use online resources.

We will continue working with colleagues across the sector to identify and share current developments and research in assessment in HE.

The assessment learning area will include:

For staff:

• Assessment links to resources, case studies and exemplars
• Assessment networking opportunities
• Guidelines on eAssessment (in development) and
• Implementing online resources.

For students:

• 'The Assignment Survival Kit' offers online help on planning and completing assignments
• The Academic Integrity site with advice and information on academic writing, referencing and avoiding plagiarism.

The wide variety of assessment methods used across the sector will cross-reference to other learning areas and we will be work collaboratively with other LearnHigher colleagues on topics such as Research, Academic Writing, Report Writing and Presentation Skills.
