IntroductionResearch is at the heart of academic life, and recent national initiatives have placed renewed emphasis on the need to link teaching and research. Universities are increasingly looking at ways to enhance students' engagement with research right from the beginning of their undergraduate studies. This is happening in a number of ways, for example: - ensuring that teaching is informed by the latest research in the discipline,
- fostering students' interest in research by promoting the research activity of the department,
- redesigning the curriculum so that students undertake their own research projects,
- promoting student research through undergraduate bursary schemes and publication of student journals.
The “Doing Research” learning area supports students engaging with research at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It offers help for students who may be daunted by the language used to describe the research process, and those requiring practical support for a range of tools and techniques employed in qualitative and quantitative research. What does this Learning Area cover?Click the link below to view a graphical representation of the 'Doing Research' learning area and its link to other areas within LearnHigher. Mapping the research process The resource page links to specfic LearnHigher resources and external web-based resources that support students doing research. Resources will be continually added through the life of the CETL.
